In early September 2018, we spotted a tiny black kitten behind our house. He was incredibly cautious, so we started leaving food out for him, slowly narrowing the distance between us day by day. However, other stray cats caught wind of the food and started chasing him away. Worrying that he would end up battered and bruised if left outside, we decided to try tempting him into a pet carrier—fully expecting it to be an impossible mission.
But to our absolute surprise, he walked right in without a fight! And just like that, we safely rescued him. He was about 3 to 4 months old and weighed 1.45 kg. And yes, he was another boy! Of course, he arrived with the classic “stray kitten starter pack”—roundworms, fleas, and conjunctivitis.
With his arrival, the percentage of black fur in our household went up yet again! Ku-chan is now 8 years old and doing wonderfully.
